Once more unto the breach...

or at least once more onto the boards.

Today I accepted a small part in the play that is always done this time of year with the curmudgeonly old man who hates everything. Yes, that one. The theatre apparently fired an actress at rehearsal last night, and called me in a bit of a panic today. Thursday night will be my first rehearsal. Tuesday we have our first performance. All plans I had for the next week and a half (except for taking The May Queen to the Nutcracker on Sunday, which I told them was a make or break deal- I couldn't be at rehearsal until after that) have basically been waylaid for this (and then we'll settle into a more reasonable 3 shows a weekend schedule). Fortunately it is quite a small part, so learning the lines won't be a big deal. But there are several people working on this show that I will be pleased to have the opportunity to meet, and as I said to my husband "I get to enjoy the performances and cut out 5 weeks of rehearsing. It's perfect." Not that I don't love the rehearsing part, too.

And... perhaps once more into kitty bathing.

Tonight at dinner The May Queen mentioned she wanted to go "pet shopping." "You mean with your stuffed animals, pretend to go pet shopping?" "No," she said, "a real kitty."

I nearly spit my food all over the table, my husband was smiling a huge grin, and I could barely form any words. So, um... we'll see about this whole pet thing. Ack. Do you think yesterday's post brought me some bad pet karma or something? Actually, The May Queen LOVES animals, and so I am surprised it has taken her this long to figure out that she could ask to have one of her very own.

So... you will probably see a bit less of me for the next 10 days or so. But hopefully I will have more fun stories, even if I don't sing in a foreign language, kiss a girl or have an Italian director.

Wow, that is kind of perfect. Enjoy the show!! Again, I wish I could see it...

And honestly, I was wondering how long it would take for the May Queen to ask for a pet. Wasn't "cat" one of her first words? :)

A how without weeks of rehearsing? The only way to do small parts imho. Nice!

That's fantastic. Because five weeks of rehearsal is just never necessary (for you, I mean!)

I am raising the boys to learn to ask their father for a god.

Best of luck with the new endeavor - looking forward to stories and pics too!

Oh, and good luck with the Pet Shopping. I caved this summer. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. =) (Of course, I did convince my kids that they were "allergic" to cats and that's why we couldn't have one. My Boy has figured out that Fib.)

Maybe she'll settle for a turtle?

We're going to see the Nutcracker this weekend, too. Such a perfect outing for little girls. have fun.

How fun! I was wondering (though maybe you've said something about this and I missed it) if, knowing her mom performs in such cool shows, MQ has any interest in acting herself?

Wow, what a compliment! Enjoy yourself and break a leg.

Lots of kitties need rescuing but research and poll first...it's a big cat-lifelong obligation!

Congrats on the part. Small or not I am sure it's a fun thing to be a part of everyone's Christmas tradition. We love *that* show in ATL.
and try to sway the Mayqueen to a puppy... prayers on the way.

Oh, that's wonderful about the cat! Maybe not for you, though. The things you do for love....

Congrats on the play. Sounds fun.

Congrats on the part! All the fun with half the rehearsals, too.

I'm dying to know what that actress got fired for?

maybe you can talk the May Queen into just visiting the animal shelter or something. 'Cause I really think with those allergies you should say no. Really. And she can visit other people's kitties.

Yeah! So exciting! Quite a compliment that the company called you up, no? Do you think The MayQueen will get to see you in this one? It might be age appropriate depending on how scary they make the ghosts. How fun! Congrats!

I'll bet you're cat will be the really cool kind, with some fantastic, made for the lights name. :)

You can only blame yourself, dearie...you tempted the fates, and darn if they cannot battle temptation.

I believe Karma just bit you in the butt. Happy kitty days.

I figure with all of your experience and expertise at bathing cats, you guys are a natural fit to be a cat family!

Congrats on the part!

Have fun with the play.

I'm sure I read that YOU are allergic to cats. Wouldn't that then be a "NO" to the cat?

I think pets are great for everyone, and especially kids, but I would never have a pet that didn't meet specific criteria for my life.

Congrats on the part!

And I agree with briquette - your allergy IS a NO to the cat! I'm sure you two can agree on something else ...

WOW- Congrats! I don't know how you add more to your schedule this time of year. What an exciting call to get, and to have them at your mercy, how cool!

Yes! Get a kitty! Pets are wonderful...

Good luck with all you're juggling!

I don't envy you the cat issue. I reluctantly let hubs get a dog "for the kids" and all my fears have come to pass.

But I'm more intrigued with your stage savviness. I'm interested in auditioning for a local company's production of "The Vagina Monologues." The catch: I have no experience, other than a musical performance in college eons ago. Any advice or words of encouragement?

I love your theater stories! And, I'd love to get me kid(s?) a pet someday...someday...

I'm so excited for you! Fun, fun.

And maybe you could get the May Queen to aim lower, perhaps a guinea pig for starters? ;)

Congrats on the part! Have fun!

Great news about the play!

And good luck with the pet thing. I personally stay away from cats. I think they're sneaky creatures that try to kill and eat humans.

Congrats on the part. Yay, less rehearsal!

Congrats on the new play! Can't wait to hear about it... I love living vicariously through you!

Hope your family finds a pet to agree on... of some sort. Hopefully one that poops a minimal amount. ;)
