I heart NOLA

I've been busy showing off fair New Orleans to my brother and sister-in-law. My parents treated us to two nights, KIDS FREE, at a hotel in the French Quarter.

As they've never been to NOLA before, we enjoyed introducing them to the sights, sounds and tastes of New Orleans.

We took a carriage ride, listened to music on Frenchman street, visited museums, took walking tours, and explored a cemetery.

We ate crawfish, beignets, bread pudding, gumbo, po' boys, pralines and fried alligator. We drank mint juleps, Abita beer, hand grenades and many of our favorite hurricanes by candlelight at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.

I never expected to close out last night singing karaoke at a gay bar with my sister-in-law. But we had a blast (and earned ourselves some free shirts, too!)

And all I can say is that I love this city more and more.

Okay, now I want to come for a visit, too. Mainly just to eat po'boys.

Beautiful pictures, by the way. I'm glad you guys got to have a little getaway.

Isn't it great when company comes and you become a tourist again? I love it. Your photos are great and now I want to sing karaoke in a Gay bar (with your sister, not mine) and sit and listen to bands until morning.

Oh, man! I'm so envious. I've got to get down there and get a good zydeco/jambalaya fix. Bons temps.

Just wow.

For many years, it was on our top five destinations list, but dropped off after kids. You're really whetting my appetite again.

Your pictures are amazing - I want to visit if only to see the amazing architecture. You can find some really cool things in cemetaries - I love reading the gravestones and trying to imagine what life was like for those buried there. Sounds like a marvelous time:)

I have always wanted to see New Orleans. My mother was there several years ago and all she could talk about were all the wonderful old houses. Sounds like you had a great time. Love how you closed out :)

A carriage ride just like tourists! I love seeing an old place with new eyes. And you guys have some great antiquarian bookstores too, like Faulkner House. My husband and I once had a weekend date there filled just with those...(okay and a bunch of great food..oh and good music at night...)
I love Naw'lins....

The one thing about NOLA is that even as a resident you can easily be a tourist! I am fascinated by another blogger (nolanotes.com) who is from NOLA but writes about it as if she is discovering it daily. I have done the weekend downtown like you (kid free!) and long for another weekend like that. Your post has me aching for some time in the quarter. Wanna go?
