Sugar high

I saw a commercial today that I was SURE was one of those ironic, fake ones. The woman was SO overly sincere that I kept waiting for the punchline. Plus, it was so ridiculous. She was urgently complaining about how difficult it will be to feed her family if the government puts an extra tax on SODA and FRUIT JUICE. But the punchline was... that there WAS no punchline. Apparently the government wants to put a tax on "sugar sweetened" drinks.

You know... a tax on, as this Diet Cherry Coke junkie calls it, "a can full of chemicals" and "cup o' corn syrup."

How will we EVER feed our families? Golly, we might actually have to resort to drinking... *GASP* ... water!!!!

They want to use the money to help run new health care programs.

It's outrageous! Taxing sugar sweetened drinks that contribute to our national obesity problem is like taxing cigarettes because they cause cancer!

Oh wait...

* maybe diet sodas will escape the tax, since they aren't ACTUALLY sweetened with sugar. Hmm.....

Wow. One tax that won't affect me. How novel! I like "sin" taxes. Let the people who are seemingly purposely trying to get cancer pay for their own health care. And the ones that eat nothing but fat and sugar pay for theirs, too!

I must admit, I do love a good soda...but that commercial sounds a wee bit ridiculous!

Haha! I haven't seen that one yet. Sounds pretty ridiculous.

This is what I miss when I sleep in instead of getting up early to exercise with the TV on?

I was aware of this proposal. Some days, it seems there is no common sense anywhere.

ha! haven't seen it yet, but it does remind me of the commercial for high fructose corn syrup (It's natural, it's just like sugar, dummy!).

I've reached a point at which I'm ready to march with signs that say "More Taxes, Now!"

Oh my. That's really funny and really sad.

I saw that--and I agree, another ineffective senseless taxation.

the outrage with which people approach really stupid causes never ceases to baffle me.

y'know...i don't think she's "feeding her family" on juice. but that's not the point, is it? the point is the government hates families, or something like that?

i gotta say, friend, discourse in your fair nation has sunk pretty low.

I miss the good ol' days when political ads were only on air during the election. *sigh*
