I looked across the table at my husband, who was gazing intently at The May Queen. She was standing next to his chair, animatedly telling him about something that happened at school today. As I watched him watch her I thought wow. Look how he is listening to her. He is such a good daddy. I love him.
The May Queen finished her story and sat back in her own chair. Her daddy then turned to me and said "She said like 73 times in that story."
So that explains the rapt attention he was giving her.

Like, what's the matter with that?
That is so awesome. My younger daughter's favorite word to enhance a story is 'actually', which comes out, 'actoowy'.
That drives us BONKERS! We will say to the boys after a "it was, like, so fast" something to the effect of "so was it actually fast or in theory fast"?
It has actually cut down on the "likes".
My younger daughter's new word is unusual which comes out as "unushable".
They become teenagers so early these days!
We call ours on all the "likes," also. It is wearying.
Like, OMG! :)
I am so like your husband when it comes to paying attention to my kids!!
That is a pretty impressive count.
Now, if only he were tracking her uses of "like:" filler/discourse particle, adverbial, quotative, comparative...Like which kinds of "like" did she use? Was she like, "I, like, you know, like stuff like that?"
I actually had no idea it started so young.
Whatever gets you through, I say.
BTW, Alejna is funny.
"Actually" is my boys' filler of choice. Which I find almost as aversive as I think I'd find "like."
Precision in language. I insist on it (and am routinely and mercilessly teased for doing so).
Alejna makes me laugh. Like, totally.
idk my bff like was it like really 73 or like maybe like 74? omg wth? bbqomgrotfl!
It does not surprise me AT ALL that he counted. :)
Poor May Queen - she thought he was hanging on to her every word, not just 'like'
Heidi :)
Oh, no!!
That is so darn funny.
"I love him"
You cracked me up this morning.
Hahaha! 73 is IMPRESSIVE.
That is hilarious! So much for listening intently, huh? Oh well. He, like, tried at least, right? Like, that is sooo good enough! ;)
I love that she uses like already. What a little teenager.
Like, that was hilarious! At least he's paying attention to something right? :)
Oh, dear, that was completely hilarious!
*snort*
Like, wow, a teenager-in-training!
HA!!!! That's a stitch. I love it.
HA!!!! That's a stitch. I love it.
Well, at least he *was* listening. I say "okay," like, all the time, but at least no-one (that I know of) is counting.
Bwahahahaha!
I do the same thing!
Ha! I love it! (Or, rather, I like, love it.)
You're married to my husband's twin, word watch wise.
Like, it drives me nuts.
Prediction: she will grow out of it. He won't.
Like, that is the funniest thing I have like read today, like.
Like, totally, duh.
=)
