meow?

It all began this morning with a conversation on our back porch. I think I must have said "I don't want a cat" about a dozen times, at least.

As I type this, there is a cat in my lap.

We have unexpectedly taken in a kitty cat. We're doing this as a trial run. We had some friends who needed to find a home for a cat, and we agreed to give it a go. The cat would have been returned to a shelter today if we didn't take him, and we were clear with the friends we took him from that if things didn't work out they would need to take him back there. He's a really sweet long haired gray and white tabby cat - patient with the May Queen, and enjoys people. He's sitting in my lap right now. We'll see how it goes... what with my allergies and just the trials of pet ownership (you know, like cat bathing). The May Queen is rather gleeful over this new development. The Big Guy is, too. Me? I'm a bit wary of the whole thing, but we'll see.

Monday's Mission is to write a post in the style of New Year's resolutions. I suppose it's too late for mine to be "stay feline free." Anyhow... get thinking about yours. Come back here on Monday and post a link. ALSO... I am still accepting ideas for next Month's Missions. Please leave in the comments or send me an email at pntdmaypoleATyahooDOTcom. I'd like to post the missions for January this Monday.

You never stood a chance against them. Have fun. I hope the experiment works out.

What a good wife and mother you are. Hope your allergies don't sabotage your pet ownership.

Good luck. She sure looks happy. I'm thinking you have yourself a new pet, hon. Like it or not.

I think pets are good for kids... and you have to admit ~ it's better than a snake! :) But I guess that's easy for me to say ~ I'm a cat person. Do you have a name for the new family member yet? Once you do, though, it'll be permanent I'm guessing... good luck, Mama!

Aww - your little girl looks so happy with that cat. I'm afraid you're stuck - it's live forever and you'll be looking after it for years after she moves out...I brought home a kitten when I was 10 and it lived for 23 years!

Oh, what a beautiful cat! You will grow into her, I'm sure.

Oh I hope it works out for you and MQ. I would guess the fact that you let him in your lives means he is probably there to stay barring any major issues. And he is lovely.

We are soon to be cat free in this home I fear, our one remaining feline is reaching the end of his days. It will be odd not to have him nagging me all the time.

Good luck with your decision.

Aww, what a pretty kitty!

I must admit, though, to being a bit shocked. I really thought there'd never be another kitty in your house. Hmm...

Maybe for a Monday Mission there could be a post written by a pet! :)

Challenges are great learning experiences.
Oh man-- does that sound lame.

Let me say this:
The cat looks pretty - and clean. Love, The dog.

Come over to the dark side PM ... you know you want to ... all the cool kids have cats:) And isn't it amazing that felines head like a bullet to the one person who's allergic to/afraid of them? They are perverse creatures but he WILL bring you around.

Yeah, I don't think that cat is going annnywhereeee. We have two cats. They like to pee on wet towels, the little darlings.

I hope it goes well!

My 15 year old trial run cat is curled up in my lap right now, too.

Cat bathing? Why? I only bathed a cat when he was too ill to care for himself. :)

Anyway, enjoy. :)

Honey, look at the May Queen with that kitty - you're never getting rid of the cat. I know where you're coming from though...I love our dog, and now that we have her I wouldn't give her up, but if I'd known in advance how much trouble she would cause, how much hair she would shed, how much noise she would make if the speed of the car goes below 80 km/h....I would never have given in to Hubs whining for a dog. Good Luck!

Wow. Not even 2008 and cat resolution blown. Gurl... you are going to have one helluva year.

Thanks for stopping by and your comments on the "mom thing" debate. I think you've got a great perspective in terms of continuing with your acting and keeping both those things going. Writing is such a solitary art that it's hard to remember that you're doing it "for real". OTOH, I can do this any time I like - I don't need a cast, director, play, etc., a point made poignantly clear in "The Lives of Others". I hope you enjoy Emma!

I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like cats. I would've backed you up 157%!

uh-oh, I think that cat may be there to stay regardless of your reservations. Good luck!

That's exactly how we ended up with our cat.
