Mary May Queen

Sunday morning we had our Christmas Pageant at church. I directed it, of course.

Last year The May Queen played a sheep, and wanted desperately to be Mary. So this year I decided a little nepotism was in order, and The May Queen got to play Mary.

Let me tell you, that she simply GLOWED as Mary.

Erm... that's not her.

OK, so she didn't glow. Rather, she was a very devout Mary, with her eyes turned up to heaven.

OK, so that's not her either.

No, rather, she chose to play Mary as being totally enamoured with her gorgeous new baby.

Whoops. That's not it either.

Well, she was definitely a robust Mary.

OK, maybe not.

Actually, as the director of the show i decided to take the role of Mary in a slightly different direction.

While that may be a Madonna, but I didn't take it in that different of a direction.

Rather, the May Queen stood in front of the congregation and did what any lucky child playing Mary would do.....

Wish she were someone else.

Sigh. And no, for those of you who are wondering... The May Queen does not seem to have caught the acting bug from her mama.

Can't do the mission, but LOVED what you did! Fun and charming and oh-so-true. (Did I mention I used to teach drama to elementary students?)

I freaking ADORE you.

ps. got a little weird about saying "freaking" with a post about the mother mary and all, but then figured you'd be okay with it.

She's adorable, whether she wanted to be there or not. Did she have fun, a little?

I did it this week!

I can't do it either - i thought I was the last person on earth without photoshop!

This is great fun - I'll be sure to check out the other links later.

On Thursday, we have Lessons & Carols, and Fiona was chosen to read a Lesson. Gulp. At least it doesn't involve costumes.

I love that she wanted to be a sheep! I also really enjoyed your use of "neoptism". Must keep that word in mind when I play Scrabulous later today.

... because it's always easier to be somebody else.

Ahhh, kids - lol

I don't know now -- I was going to enter, but I'm not as creative as you are with Photoshop! But, maybe you all won't be too critical of me -- because it's a lovely story to go with it.

I found this photo after my Mom died, and it was torn, so I had to repair it via photo shop. I also cropped out the faces to protect the innocent.

The story, is what I remember, and how I think it was.

The Madonna one made me giggle...

She's so cute with her little robe and her Baby. And looking like she's really rather be someplace else! =)

Thanks for sharing!

oh, she is just too cute - and she'd be an adorable sheep too!

What a great post. I laughed harder at each new pic. You rock! And what a sweetie she is.

I'm up. A bit frazzled, but hey, I tried.

So funny! The joy of children I reckon...
I would love to do a photshop mission, but alas, my skills only extend to restoration of old photos at this time. I will be sure to check back and see where it gone though!

Sweet little girl.
My Girl was Mary in front of the whole town when she was FIVE and she was so poignantly brave that my heart throbs even now thinking back.

Was it cold in there? Maybe she thought the sheep costumes were warmer...?

Adorable, whether she wanted to be a sheep or not. Just adorable. :-)

Ramekin wasn't so enthused about doing his bit in the pageant on Sunday either... refused to wear the shirt I made him, refused to sing the song... then tried to set his star-on-a-stick with tinsel alight in front of everybody... quite a performance.
