Hunca Munca in my basement

In Beatrice Potter's The Tale of Two Bad Mice, she tells of rodents wrecking havoc in a dollhouse: smashing plaster food, tearing the bolster, stealing things.

These mice seem to have moved to our basement, and are doing something in the dollhouse that Potter never mentions in her book:
My grandfather made this dollhouse for me, and now the mice seem to be using it for a toilet. Hunca Munca is definitely not sweeping out THIS house.

Another thing Potter doesn't mention is what happens when the household cat gets ahold of the mischievious mice. Hunca Munca was found dead at the bottom of the basement stairs.

(no picture, sorry)

Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain her criminal partner, Tom Thumb, is still on the loose.

Marginally better than finding the same, erm, deposits in the cupboard with the cereal boxes.
It's that time of year. Glad you have a cat!

We had mice when we first moved in. Unbeknownst to us, we were feeding them dog food. I found a large stash underneath our stove, but the dog either didn't care or, more likely, had no clue.

Our house was rather creepy then. I remember the first month we were here, Fiona always wanted me to read Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Tom Kitten, because the sooty flue and the hidden room where Anna-Maria made him into a pudding was suggestive of our house.

Thank goodness you have the household cat! Stinking mice ate through our internal-frame backpacks last winter :-(

I know that book. I think you have the potential for a rewrite on your hands, with all new illustrations.

It seems a shame that Hunca Munca is the one who met her end. Of the two bad mice, she seemed to show more remorse, what with the penance of sweeping the dollhouse. Tom Thumb, on the other hand, may be a hardenened criminal.

Good luck getting to a new happy ending...or tragic ending, from the mouse's perspective.

Oooh, the doll house? That seems very offensive. I'm sure Tom Thumb is the next victim of the cat. (Cue evil laughter...)
