tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

My grandfather died Monday night. I'm relieved it went quickly, overall, but still sad. The May Queen cried when we told her the next morning.

I realize that although all of my grandparents saw me into adulthood, this grandfather was the only one whom I really knew as an adult. He visited our family, and we visited him. He told stories of his time in the Navy, of his childhood, of his love for my grandmother. We went sight seeing together, we played games around the table, and we enjoyed each others company. Like friends.

But he was still always my Gramps.

And I'll miss him.

I'm so sorry. It is always so hard to lose someone you love, even when you know it's coming.

How wonderful that you had a chance to know him as an adult, and be friends with him. He sounds like a charming and loving man.

Hugs to you and the May Queen. I'll be thinking of you.

Oh,PM,I'm so sorry. It's tough to lose anyone, but when you lose a grandparent as an adult, it really hits you how lucky you were to have had them. Hugs to you and MQ.

I am sorry for your loss, and I'm thinking of you and your family.

That's a wonderful picture of the two of you. You can remember him to the MQ and that will be a beautiful thing.

So hard. And yet, good memories and a priceless friendship. It's a gift that as grandparents we all hope we can give.
Holding you both in my thoughts.

I'm so very sorry.
This sadness will last and what you will be left with is the sweetness at the bottom of the pie.
He was lucky to have you and you obviously were lucky to have him right back....

I am so sorry. He doesn't look 86 in this photo, he looks young, healthy and happy. What a blessing it must have been to be able to know him as an adult! What wonderful memories you must have. My grandfathers died when I was a child and my husband's were long gone when I met him.
((Hugs))

I'm so very sorry. How blessed you were to have him for so long.

I just wrote something about my grandparents on my blog. They're never far from my mind. I love the picture of your grandpa at the beach, holding your daughter's hand. And how difficult to have your own grief, and theirs.

Peace to you and your family.
