ah... a google search for "yellow spotted odd shaped spider" leads me to believe that it is a "Gasteracantha cancriformis" - otherwise known as a spinyback orb weaver

what did I ever do before google?

I call it a big ol' spider.

That's not a big spider...but is cool looking!

Having a giveaway this week. Do be a dear and stop by when you get the chance. :)

Eek!

I try to avoid identifying spiders when I can. I actually try to avoid looking at spiders when I can.

Did I ever tell you about finding the black widow in my kitchen when we lived in Bakersfield...and how I killed it with Windex? I'm such a brave girl. I do believe I emptied half the bottle on that poor spider...

Orb weavers are fascinating to watch. We have a lot here in THE ATL. Their bites hurt though.

Cool pics! I must say, though, that I am glad that spider is at your house and not mine. :)

Yes, those of the freakish-horrificus brand. eeee.

We get those, too! I don't mind them too much, they stay outside and keep to themselves.

Great, great photos.

And just about the only thing I know about spiders is that they usually have eight eyes (though some have six).

That is the most unusual spider I have ever seen!
